This healthy homemade ranch dressing is made from scratch, so there are no surprise ingredients! Sharing two wholesome options: one made with yogurt and another buttermilk-based recipe.
Ranch dressing is one of my guilty pleasures, but with this addative-free recipe, there is no guilt required! It tastes worlds better than the store-bought version and couldn't be easier to make!
This homemade ranch dressing is creamy, has perfectly balanced 'clean' ingredients, and the best part is it only takes a few minutes to whip up a batch! This can be used as salad dressing, a flavorful vegetable dip
We love this homemade ranch dressing because
- it is additive-free and has wholesome ingredients
- it comes together in minutes
- and it keeps in the fridge for a week!
Ingredients
- Homemade ranch seasoning: dill, parsley, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
- Mayonnaise: regular, avocado oil, or vegan mayonnaise. If you have a strong aversion to mayo you can use sour cream, though I do think it misses a bit of the "tang" you come to expect from a ranch dressing recipe.
- Plain yogurt: plain regular yogurt, or plain Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt will make it a bit thicker and higher in protein.
- Buttermilk: if you don't have any on hand this is how you can make it in a pinch.
- Lemon juice: if you do not have lemon juice you can use apple cider vinegar. If you are sensitive to that flavor add ยฝ teaspoon and do a taste test before adding more.
How to make it
To make this dressing at home, you are first going to need to make a batch of my Homemade Ranch Seasoning (which has just 6 ingredients).
- Stir together the ranch seasoning ingredients
- Mix together 1 tablespoon of ranch seasoning with yogurt, mayonnaise, buttermilk,, and a teaspoon of lemon juice.

Using Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing
- As a dip for veggies. This makes a great appetizer. I think its creamy texture is especially great with broccoli, crunchy cucumbers, carrots and radishes.
- Make these Ranch Chicken Jar Salads for a delicious meal prep lunch option. This is great on any kind of salad; it truly elevates a basic garden salad.
- As a dip for chicken wings, along with celery sticks and carrots.
- Use it on wraps, in pitas, or on a sandwich.
- Serve it on burgers or as a dip for sweet potato fries.
- Serve it alongside pizza, if you know you know.
Recipe FAQ
Yes, or you can make your own buttermilk using regular milk and lemon juice! Find my directions here. If you'd like, you can swap for regular milk.
I have not tried a vegan option, but my guess would be to start with almond milk, coconut yogurt, and vegan mayo.
Unfortunately dairy does not freeze well, so I don't recommend freezing. It keeps in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Once it is assembled store it in the refrigerator a mason jar up to one week.
