The air fryer continues to surprise me with how well it cooks certain foods; from air fryer burgers to air fryer french toast, sometimes the recipes you least expect blow you away. Enter air fryer pizza!

I mean, I really thought this was going to be a disaster, so when the pizza crust came out amazingly crisp and cooked through so quickly, I was pretty floored. I think this will be our go-to method for pizza from now on!

Ingredient notes
- pizza dough- I don't have a go-to recipe that I love, and simply purchased pre-made pizza dough from my grocery store. Allow it to rise in a greased bowl at room temperature before rolling it out for this recipe.
- pizza sauce- I used pre-made pizza sauce (Primo brand). This recipe is all about the shortcuts 😉
- olive oil- brushing the crust with olive oil before pre-baking it helps to get it nice and crispy; swap for vegetable oil or avocado oil.
- toppings- get creative here!
Step by step directions
1. Pizza dough- divide 1 lb of pizza dough in half, then roll one half of it out on a floured surface to ¼ inch thickness.

2. Cook- Preheat air fryer for at least 5 minutes. Carefully arrange the pizza dough in the air fryer basket, stretching as needed to fit the space, then drizzle with olive oil and brush the surface with a silicone brush. Cook the pizza base for 5 minutes, or until the crust is golden.
TIP- this recipe was tested in both a Cosori XL air fryer (pictured) and an Instant Pot Vortex air fryer oven. For some reason, the pizza crust bubbled up a lot in the oven, and worked much better in the basket style air fryer. If your crust does bubble up, you can simply pop them with a paring knife, or crush them down after baking through.
3. Toppings- When crust is golden brown, carefully add your pizza sauce, spreading across the crust, cheese, and other toppings. Return the basket to the air fryer, and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes. Watch carefully to make sure you cheese gets golden and doesn't overcook.
FAQ
Yes, though you might need to cut it to fit. Cook at 400°F, and start checking at half the oven cook time recommended on the box.
The air fryer is my absolute favorite way to reheat pizza. Simply preheat at 400°F for 5 minutes, then add your pizza slices to the basket or tray. Cook for 3-5 minutes, checking frequently, until the cheese is melted and pizza crust is crisp.
Sure, that would work. You could also use pita bread or naan bread. I would try pre-cooking for 2 minutes to get the crust nice and crispy, then add on your toppings, and cook until the cheese is browned.
