$7, some scissors and some craft paper is all you need to spruce up some empty wall space!
Look! I did another craft!
Well...this one has actually been in the making for awhile, but I just couldn't seem to get the last steps finished until this week.
I'm not entirely sure what to call it...like a mobile? But that hangs on the wall? Whatever it 'is', I'm liking the finished product, more than I thought I would!
So, many long years ago (um...3), we painted our ugly old spare room. I blogged about it here, if you want to see some before & after shots.
And there it sat. Undecorated...which makes it feel so unfinished.
I have decided to decorate it on the most minimal budget possible.
Cost of this project:
-heavy craft paper $5
-dowel $2
Total: $7 *you will also need: scissors, glue, thread and twine (I already had these items)
1) Download a template for these 'cubes'...I think they're technically called 'polyhedrons'. I downloaded mine from The Red Thread...check out her cubes, they're beautiful!
I cut out the template and traced it onto my craft paper. Then I drew in the lines (they weren't perfect but try to be fairly precise). Cut out your craft paper.
Would you like to save this?
2) Fold along the lines.
3) Glue along the little flaps. Take your time with this part. Netflix & a glass of wine help.
4) Repeat!
2) Thread a needle and run through the top of the cube.
3) Knot.
4) Tie the other end to the dowel. I did this with the dowel hanging on the wall. Take your time with this part to make sure you get your cubes evenly spaced and symmetrical.
* To hang the dowel, Ben drilled a hole on either end of it, and I ran twine through, tying it off.
I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. I like the shadows that are cast by the cubes, and I like the lines that the threads make (they don't come through very well on camera but are more obvious in person).
Best of all, the project cost us $7 and fills up one big old empty wall!
Only 2 more walls to fill in that room!
