This green mango superfood smoothie finally converted me into a green smoothie fan! Packed full of superfoods, no added sugar, and ready in 5 minutes.
You know, it’s been nearly a year since I’ve shared a drink recipe with you all. And it’s been even longer since I last shared a smoothie recipe with you…TWO YEARS!
I was so good about drinking a healthy smoothie every morning when I was pregnant with Kai, but after he was born, I totally fell off the smoothie train, and it’s about time I get back on it.
Why is it that we can take such good care of our children, but when it comes to ourselves, we can drop the ball so easily? Am I alone here? Honestly, I’ve felt in general lately I haven’t been taking good care of myself. I fell off my exercise routine and have been eating way too many tortilla chips.
So drinking a green superfood smoothie for breakfast each morning is my small, but significant, first step in getting back into a healthier routine.
The thing I love best about smoothies is how much nutrition you can squeeze in one glass.
And this superfood smoothie is packed with (duh) superfoods. What superfoods, you may ask?
- chia seeds for a boost in fiber and omega fats
- ground flax seed for more fiber and antioxidants
- mango is used as a natural sweetener, but it is also packed with nutrients and antioxidants
- spinach which contains iron, vitamin C and more antioxidants
Yay antioxidants! We want all the antioxidants we can get, because they can lower the risk of cancer and fight against aging. (I had to squeeze a tiny bit of science in here…ha!)
I normally use cranberry juice as a base for my smoothies, but I really wanted a smoothie that wasn’t packed with sugar, so I went with mangoes as a base. Since they are naturally sweet, you don’t even need to add extra sweeteners. If you do want to up the sweetness a bit, I recommend adding a teaspoon or two of maple syrup.
And to compliment the mango flavors and the subtle nuttiness from the flax and almond milk, I added a touch of almond extract. This gives a really nice aftertaste.
If you are on the fence about green smoothies, I hope you’ll give this one a try! It’s sweet, but not too sweet, and you really can’t taste the spinach. And by starting your day with this smoothie, you’ve already eaten three servings of fruit and one serving of vegetables…plus a huge boost in nutrition from the flax and chia seeds.

- 1 cup spinach, packed
- 1¼ cups almond milk (*not* the unsweetened kind)
- 1.5 cups frozen (ripe) mango chunks
- 1 teaspoon ground flax
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- ⅛ teaspoon almond extract
- Combine the spinach and almond milk in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Add the mango chunks, flax, chia seeds and almond extract. Blend again until smooth.
